Our Apologetics Index Bible GemLights. . . Devotionals for all! |
Greetings to all!
First of all, to make something very clear, true trinitarians do not believe in three Gods or three separate individuals comprising God. There is only one Supreme Being, not two, nor three or more.
Secondly: The human tongue is bankrupt to even begin to express the glories of God and many things about the workings of God.
I feel led of the Spirit to start with Holy Scripture first. After all, the written Word of God is absolute truth, the very revelation of God Himself showing Himself to mankind because He does love us so much!
In introducing the Holy Scriptures, let me ask you a question: Who raised Jesus Christ from the dead? If you respond "God raised Christ from the dead" you have given a correct answer! Here is the passage that points that out:
That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved.—Romans 10:9
Now, I am sure you also realize the Holy Bible speaks of God as the Father. So here is a verse stating the Father raised Christ from the dead:
Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)—Galatians 1:1
Now, what did Christ say Himself about His resurrection? . . .
Jesus answered and said to them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and will you raise it up in three days?
21 But he spoke of the temple of his body.
22 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this to them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.—John 2:19-22
So, what about the Holy Spirit? . . .
But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwells in you.—Romans 8:11
In reality, it should not be hard for us to understand that God subsists as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Water can exist as ice, liquid water, and water vapor. But there is a far better example I would like to present. We, as individuals, subsist as three in one. Each of us has a body soul and spirit. Consider 1 Thessalonians 5:23—"And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Do you see how loving God is? For our salvation, He subsists as Father, Son and Holy SPIRIT. We subsist as body, soul and SPIRIT. A common denominator between us and God is spirit. We are a spirit and God is a spirit (John 4:24). He wants us to be with Him in Eternal Life for eternity, but the Scriptures are very clear that nothing unholy will dwell with Him (Hebrews 12:14). We are unholy (Romans 3:10).
So, how is this rectified? Let us go back to the first verse that appears above and let me put in some verses that follow it (Romans 10:9-13).
Consider the word "Lord" in verse 10 as one who is in charge of your life, and better yet, think of that word in the idea of being "King," because that is exactly what God is. He is a King, not a tyrant that will force you to come to Him. Christ Himself said in Revelation 3:20 that one needs to open the door to let Him in. And, confessing with the mouth means to be committed to the surrendering of your will to His will every moment of your life. Part of His will for you and me is that we stop sinning and develop His works. This is impossible outside of Christ.
From James 2:19 we see "to believe in your heart" is much more than a simple naive belief as one might believe in Santa, the Easter Bunny and so on. It is one of commitment and that takes action because of loving God. Many examples of this type of belief are found in Hebrews 11.
By believing in this manner and fully trusting God we confess that, as is recorded in the Holy Scriptures, Christ lived a sinless life but took our sins upon Himself, that He took the due punishment of our sins upon the cross and died, was raised again ready to grant each of us forgiveness, cleansing, His righteousness, His life and even more!
If you have not done so, or, if you have done so and have walked away from Christ, will you please open the door of your heart right now and invite the Savior in to be your King? If so, please pray something like this, meaning it with your heart: Father, forgive me for I have sinned. I ask that You cleanse me and I ask Christ to come in to be my Lord, to be King in my life. I surrender all that I am and all that I have to you. O God, because you have loved me so, I love you. Rule me from now on. Help me to live for you and help me to receive your help. This I pray in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen!"
If you have made such a surrender to God in Christ I, God has helped me to prepare the following things for you:
On this page you have one of a number of Scriptural proofs of the Trinity. But what about the word "Trinity" itself? An objection raised by some at times is there is no such word in the Holy Bible. While that is true, as I have mentioned above our language is bankrupt when we start to describe the infinite glories of God. However, there is a Biblical word quite comparable to "The Trinity": "The Godhead." And, amazingly enough, guess how many times it appears in Holy Scripture: three! Here are the verses since some do not have easy access to a Holy Bible.
We have no excuse to ignore the saving love and mercy of God, Who subsists as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
