While waiting at a doctor's office recently I decided to browse through some magazines and PCWorld caught my attention. In that issue I came across an article that indicated that some anti-virus and anti-spyware programs were considering using a whitelist of approved programs to stop unwanted intrusions into computer systems.
Apparently there are more programs dangerous to computers than safe ones ready to invite themselves into your computer. Usage of a whitelist would save time scanning one's computer, and an option would be available for users to add a reliable program that the anti-virus or anti-spyware might not recognize.
Upon reading the information I thought this was a great idea and quite sensible. Then my mind flashed back to the day I attended Northeast Bible Institute in Green Lane, Pennsylvania.
One of the courses I had to take concerned religious cults. Our textbook for that class was The Kingdom of the Cults by Walter Martin. Mr. Martin was quite thorough in his work.
As a young Christian, I thought to myself that I too would be an expert in the cults. So I began to use a large binder to start jotting things down about the cults and would attempt to stay abreast of the new deceivers that would come along.
But those were the days before the Internet, and it was hard to come by such news. I heard of things locally, but not from distant states and other countries.
Then I heard the Lord tell me this: Do not specialize in the cults, but specialize in the Truth.
This made good sense, for the Truth that pertains to the salvation from God to man is quite simple and very open. Knowing specifically what the Holy Bible says about the fundamental truths is far better than trying to keep up with error and fabrication that changes over the years.
Psalm 119:160 states, "Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever."
There is no guesswork when it comes to the essential saving truths of the Holy Word of God. By concentrating upon these truths and not the falsehoods of man one becomes stronger within their spirit. And the more one knows about the Word of God, the easier it is for them to fend off untruth and at the same time reach out to the cult member that would try to convince them otherwise.
Around four major cults were birthed in the 1800s and gradually gained acceptance by society in the century that followed. There have also been hundreds of lesser-known cults since that time. More shall come before Christ returns.
However, no matter who says what, the true Christian realizes that if they a have a reliable version of the Holy Bible they have a sure foundation upon which they build their walk in Christ.

"O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colors and lay thy foundations with sapphires. And I will make thy windows of agates and thy gates of rubies, and all thy borders of pleasant stones. And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD, and great shall be the peace of thy children." --- Isaiah 54:11-13
