Looking at my front steps a few weeks ago I saw that it was time to repaint them. Along with those are, for my lack of not knowing what the proper term is, some mini-logs that run the front of the house on both sides of the steps.
In preparation to paint, I began to scrape away any loose paint from the steps and logs. I then power washed both.
That not only got rid of much of the dirt but it also loosened up some more paint. So once again I scraped.
As I scraped some of the logs, which were beginning to rot (and I know they will need to be removed in a few years) I discovered in some places water had lodged behind the paint creating mold. This was not good and no doubt had contributed to the fact that some of these logs were starting to rot.
The same thing can happen to us in the spiritual realm. Many of us have a tendency to justify ourselves at times over things and thought patterns that God’s Word points out to be wrong. If we let these matters, which are really sins, fester, we are in danger of rotting spiritually. And just like those mini-logs will one day be soon discarded, unless we correct these things in our lives we are less than what God intends us to be and stand in danger of His judgment.
Since sin has a strong pull on all of us, and compared to God we are not clean, we need help. God in His loving mercy has provided that help in Christ Jesus.
In Psalm 19:12 we read this earnest prayer: “Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.”
If we earnestly pray something like that God will cleanse us. He will also guide us through His written Word to help us see where we can improve. Above all, He will point us to His Son Who is the Cure for our sinful nature and Who will become our life if we let Him.
We can have His Son dwell in us by fully surrendering our lives to Him and asking Christ to be King in our lives. For those of us who have made such a commitment, let us daily be in His Word in the light of His Holy Spirit.

"O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colors and lay thy foundations with sapphires. And I will make thy windows of agates and thy gates of rubies, and all thy borders of pleasant stones. And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD, and great shall be the peace of thy children." --- Isaiah 54:11-13
