As you search the Internet for a bit of fun you might come across some sites that list ridiculous laws. In my opinion, some of these laws are on the books because stupid activities of people should be prevented, like shaving in the center of a main street. It is sad when people are so inconsiderate that a law has to be passed to curb foolishness. However, a law I would be up-in-arms about would be forcing a one armed piano player in Iowa to play for free!

Well, one law most would say is not stupid is that in most states, if not all, traffic must stop for a stopped school bus when it has its flashing lights activated to indicate it is picking up or discharging passengers.

That is a great law offering a measure of protection to our precious children. I think most people would agree with that law and do not mind stopping even if they are in a hurry.

Yet, most parents and guardians completely neglect the godly spiritual development of a child or give it a low priority. Some think they should just leave the child alone to let them make their own choice when they get older.

So, instead of spiritually protecting their child, they let society poison their spirit. Their children often attend schools that teach or imply astrology should direct their lives, that children should explore homosexuality, that more respect be given to the Muslim faith than Christianity, and a host of other influences to tantalize their sin nature (we all have one) to the point where they let their life be directed by human waywardness instead of the powerful and rewarding life of Christ.

It is very sad that most children never hear the Holy Bible read aloud at home. Committing to its Author, and following the King of the universe's directives results in a godly individual that makes a positive contribution to society.

One such person was a first century pastor in Ephesus, Timothy. Why? Paul by the Holy Spirit said (2 Timothy 3:15-16), "...from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness."

And, as a young child, were a couple of godly women that help nurture him spiritually (2 Timothy 1:5): "...I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also."

The very least we can do is to read the Word of God to our children and grandchildren. The best we can do is to commit to the Author and faithfully let Him live through us.

Yes, the school bus law is great for it can save from physical death. Greater, though, is Christ who can save us from eternal death.
