Out of necessity, we spend many hours taking care of our bodies each day. However, do you realize you can eat nutritiously, get ample rest, bathe, exercise faithfully, but still be neglecting yourself?
Each of us has our spirit, that element of our being that continues after our earthly body has expired. In fact, it continues for eternity. It is also akin to the very nature of God. The Holy Bible shows that God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and that we are body, soul and spirit. As you can see, the common denominator is "spirit," that element of our being designed to be in tune with God, but so often neglected by us.
To impress the importance of one's spirit, I often tell my hearers that it is the real you. It is the only thing of us that ultimately matters.
No matter what we do to our bodies, somewhere, sometime, barring the return of the Lord Christ, it shall fail, or it shall otherwise come to an end. Our spirit lives on, whether in blessedness or damnation. We can most certainly avoid damnation if we fully commit our life to Jesus Christ Who lovingly and willingly paid the price for our eternal salvation.
If we truly come to Him, asking Him to forgive us and have Christ live within us, we can then fully follow 1Corinthians 6:20 - "For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s." Our spirit will be made alive and will grow as we read the Word of God and worship God every day through His Holy Spirit.
In fact, most people that truly follow Christ begin to take care of their body even better than they had before. People have been physically healed as they have read the Holy Bible or lovingly worshiped God.
Those that truly follow Christ have a more fulfilling, rewarding life. Do not misunderstand though. They still have troubles, sometimes more than others, but God's Word and Holy Spirit strengthens their inner man, and they go, as the Word says, from strength to strength.
So, make it a point today to faithfully bathe, feed, clothe, rest, exercise the real you -- your spirit.

"O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colors and lay thy foundations with sapphires. And I will make thy windows of agates and thy gates of rubies, and all thy borders of pleasant stones. And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD, and great shall be the peace of thy children." --- Isaiah 54:11-13
